The Cave was installed as an honorarium supported project at Burning Man 2008 and seen by 50,000 attendees. The install area was approximately 22′x22,’ standing 16′ tall. The preparation & build took about 3 months with an all-volunteer crew of 22.

A. The Cave was built in a studio space in Gowanus, Brooklyn, and then shipped in pieces to the Black Rock Desert for final construction.
Q. How did you create the columns?
A. The highly realistic columns were fabricated by <a href=”http://www.custom-creations.com/”>Custom Creations</a> using epoxy-coated styrofoam. They’re both light and strong. It’s a process I’d recommend.
Q. What was the source for the images on the frieze?
A. The images are drawings of figures from American folklore.
